Boston Organ Studio is the country's largest private organ studio, supporting developing organists of all ages and abilities.
Providing opportunity for serious pipe organ study without the demands of an academic degree program, instruction is tailored to the individual needs of the student—whether beginner or advanced, amateur or professional.
Private Lessons
Private lessons form the foundation of the learning experience. Instruction is tailored for the specific needs and goals of each student. Technique is developed and repertoire is refined.
Studio Classes
Regular group sessions augment private tuition. Here, common topics are discussed, church music skills are introduced, and performance skills are cultivated.
Masterclasses
Periodic masterclasses with guest instructors—whether local practitioners or international experts—expand perspective and deepen musical context.
Performance Opportunities
Studio recitals allow for public performance practice in a low stress environment. More seasoned performers find opportunities on Boston's many established organ recital series.
Local Excursions
Short trips to visit and play notable instruments, or to learn from New England's many organ builders, build community and enhance awareness of Boston's unique place in the practice and development of American organ art.
Study Tours
And, periodic international study experiences expand students' musical horizons, allowing opportunity to (literally) follow in the footsteps of masters—hearing the sounds Bach heard and touching the keys Widor played while they were crafting the repertoire we still perform today.
Boston Organ Studio is situated in the cradle city of the American pipe organ and draws upon the vast instrument and cultural resources of the region. Its primary teaching instrument, built by Charles Fisk, is regarded as one of America's most important pipe organ installations of the 20th century. Its students range from first-time beginner to seasoned performers holding graduate degrees in organ performance; additionally, many students are college-aged, attending Boston's most prestigious institutions of higher education (including Harvard, MIT, Tufts, and Boston Conservatory). To further enhance a student's development, we cultivate opportunity to partner with local churches for organ scholarships and other learning experiences.
